The passing of Jassen Savoie

There are very few people in the Rocky Mountain environmental community who have not crossed paths with Jassen Savoie. Through his work Jassen was omnipresent, going above and beyond for his friends and colleagues. His passion for the environmental field extended beyond his work, and he served on several boards, including RMAEP. As a board member and President of RMAEP, he saw RMAEP continue to grow and evolve into a vibrant community. Always quick with a laugh and a smile, he put everyone at ease. Therefore, it is with sadness that we recognize his recent passing.
There is a GoFundMe to support Jassen's family in this difficult time. Consider contributing if you are able. Click here to go to the site.

RMAEP Announcement: Tailoring RMAEP communications
As RMAEP has grown, so has the number of emails you receive from us. We get it that some mailings aren't of interest to everyone, but you don't want to unsubscribe completely and miss out on news and events close to you. We have designed a way for people to tailor the emails you get from us.
For new members, when you join you can opt into one or both mailing groups by checking the boxes next to each group. This wise person below has opted into both so they don't miss anything.

Existing members are currently opted into both lists, but you can modify that by logging into the Member Area. Scroll all the way to the bottom. Click the Edit button.

Here you can opt into a list by selecting it on the left, or opt out by selecting the list on the right and clicking Remove. Don't forget to click Finish to save your changes.

We hope this helps people stay engaged with RMAEP!
We're sorry, but mailing group assignments only work on member records, so non-members won't be able to tailor the communications you receive. Why not join and enjoy this and the many other benefits of being a RMAEP member!
New Water Well Construction Rules coming from CO Division of Water Resources
A recent announcement from the Colorado Division of Water Resources will be of interest to many of our Colorado members.
On Monday, 5/1/2023, a new eForm launched that replaced the GWS-51 (Notice of Intent to Construct Monitoring Hole) and GWS-62 forms (Notice of Intent to Construct Dewatering Well) used to file notices of intent.
PDF Forms GWS-51 (Notice of Intent to Construct Monitoring Hole) and GWS-62 (Notice of Intent to Construct Dewatering Well) will no longer be available on our website, but DWR will continue to accept these old forms for a 60-day transition period of May through June, 2023. GWS-51 and GWS-62 PDF and paper forms will no longer be accepted after June 30, 2023.
When the new eForm is launched, an announcement will be posted on DWR’s Website (Latest News) with a public user guide that outlines the new process. The web page, once active, will be at https://dwr.state.co.us/eforms
Kevin Donegan from Colorado DWR will be presenting the new rules and eForms at GeoTech's Field Days on June 23rd during the lunch time slot.
Rocky Mountain Association of Environmental Professionals expanding to Utah
Calling all Utah Environmental Professionals…
Many of you have been active with Chad Ivie's and Pace Labs' activities, or with Rocky Mountain Association of Environmental Professionals in the past. RMAEP is excited to be growing and expanding into Utah and we are looking for people that want to be a part of our dynamic group to learn about pertinent environmental issues and network with others that share your passion.
Who is RMAEP?
RMAEP was founded in 1982 as a non-profit professional association made up of members in six western states: Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Currently, there is a very active chapter in Colorado and we have the desire to launch RMAEP Utah in 2023. Would you like to be part of this new exciting environmental association? We need your help and input so we can ensure the success of a Utah based chapter serving folks in Utah and elsewhere. Would you like to help shape the future of the group? We are looking for people to help us grow and establish a Utah-based chapter of RMAEP to complement our Colorado-based group. Reach out to us at [email protected] if you want to be a leader of the Utah chapter of RMAEP or want to learn more about RMAEP.
Our goals are consistent as we encourage professional development, mentorship, comradery and a common voice through meetings, conferences, and other RMAEP sponsored events. Our policy is to promote advancement in scientific, interdisciplinary, environmental education through the formation and operation of a non-partisan, multidisciplinary society. Our objective is to encourage and facilitate full member participation in RMAEP activities in order to assimilate the widest range of view and feature concerns of professionals engaged in the environmental field.
How can you get involved?
In our initial effort the decision was made to share this information with everyone and find out who would be interested in supporting an interim board while the organization is being structured and setup in a capacity that serves Utah and Utah related issues.
Generally we see representatives from the following sectors as members: Environmental Consultants, regulators, State and local representatives, laboratories, drilling firms, remediation firms, waste management firms, and Oil & Gas, mining, water waste/water, energy, landfills and disposal facilities, etc.
It’s possible you’ve heard some rumblings related to this from a few folks that are involved and would happily field any questions you may have. Those folks include, Mr. Rich Demusis (ERIS, [email protected]), Mr. David Veratti (Pace, [email protected]), Mr. Chad Ivie (Pace, [email protected]), Mr. Jay Zandell (Hawkke, [email protected]), and Mr. John Fontana (Vista Geo, [email protected]).
We are in the process of updating the website and information as we prepare for this exciting step in the RMAEP world and encourage you to take a quick spin and let us know your thoughts.
If you would be so kind to respond to us no later than April 30, 2023 it will give us a solid idea as to how to move forward with the new board. We welcome any ideas, suggestions, input that you may have as our goal is simple, get launched and make a positive impact!
