Speaker:

Jennifer Struass, Environmental Protection Specialist at the Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety (OPS)

Topic:

Colorado's Recognized Environmental Professional (REP) Program:

A Recognized Environmental Professional (REP) is a senior level scientist or engineer with a demonstrated level of decision-making experience and regulatory proficiency related to the fields of environmental site assessment, risk characterization, and remediation. The purpose of the REP designation is to better align decision-making responsibility between the Colorado Divison of Oil and Public Safety (OPS), responsible parties, and their environmental consultants. The REP program replaced Colorado's Listed Consultants program on January 1, 2018. Applicants seeking REP designation will need to have their credentials approved by way of an application and regulatory proficiency exam. REP applications are reviewed by an Application Review Group panel consisting of OPS staff and environmental consultants previously approved as REPs. Applicants must meet certain educational and experience requirements on their application to be approved to take the online REP exam. Applicants with an exam score equal to or greater than 80% qualify as a REP. REPs are required to meet performance expectations and continuing education requirements. A REP can bill at a labor rate OPS allows for a senior engineer or scientist. REPs not meeting expectations will be subject to corrective action considerations.
